Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

Wayside warns you about speed cameras while you drive. It is built so that information about you and your journeys stays on your iPhone.

What Wayside uses

Location

Wayside reads your location while you drive to compare it with the camera database on your iPhone. Your location is processed on the device. It is not stored and is not sent anywhere, unless you turn on Alert History (see below).

Motion

Wayside uses motion activity to detect when you start and stop driving, so alerts can switch on and off by themselves. Motion data is processed on the device and is not stored.

Live Activity

While you drive, Wayside can show your speed and the camera ahead on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, where anyone holding your iPhone can see them. This information stays on your iPhone and is not sent anywhere. Live Activity can be turned off in Wayside's Settings.

Notifications

Alerts appear as notifications on the Lock Screen and in CarPlay, showing the camera type and how far away it is, where anyone holding your iPhone can see them. They can be turned off in Wayside's Settings.

Camera database

The community camera database is downloaded from a public GitHub release. As with any download, the request includes your IP address. No other information about you is sent.

Reported cameras and muted cameras

Cameras you report, cameras you edit and cameras you mute are stored on your iPhone, protected while your iPhone is locked, and excluded from your iPhone's backup to iCloud or a computer. They leave your iPhone only when you choose to export them or include them in a Wayside backup.

Alert History

If you turn on Alert History, Wayside keeps up to 200 recent alerts on your iPhone, including your speed, heading and the camera's position at the time. This history is protected while your iPhone is locked, excluded from your iPhone's backup to iCloud or a computer, and can be cleared at any time in Settings. It leaves your iPhone only if you choose to include it in a Wayside backup.

Backups

A backup is a file you create in Wayside's Settings and save wherever you choose. It holds your settings, your reported and edited cameras, and your muted cameras. Alert History is left out unless you turn on Include History before you create it. Where the file goes afterwards is up to you: Wayside does not send it anywhere and does not keep a copy.

Maps

Maps are provided by Apple. When you open a map, the area you view is sent to Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Camera and journey data is not sent.

Purchases

Wayside Premium is purchased through the App Store. Wayside receives only the status of the purchase. Payment details are handled by Apple.
